week 3 has been a busy one to say the least. I feel like we have had Alyssa so much longer than 3 weeks but thats probably just because we have done SO much in these last few weeks. She has had quite a busy life so far.
Friday afternoon we packed up the moving truck (yes, we moved ourselves instead of having the military move us, everyone has told us we are crazy) and left Pensacola for Jacksonville, NC. We stayed the night in Augusta and then finished the drive Saturday. We then stayed in a hotel until Wednesday while Dave looked for us a place to rent. We needed a place that gave us a 3 month lease and allowed dogs, which was hard to find. We are renting for a short period while we look for the house we want to buy. We wanted to get to know the area and really find what we want before we buy. We found a place to rent and moved in wednesday. We are still unpacking. To make matters a little more difficult, I ended up getting mastitis, an infection of the breast tissue from breastfeeding. It does not effect breastfeeding though since the infection is not in the milk, actually breastfeeding helps it get better. I didn't feel too great Sunday but I figured it was just because I had a stressful week. I woke up at 3 am to feed Alyssa and noticed I had a red streak on my right side and had a fever, both warning signs the lactation consultant told me about. We went to the ER at 3 am because the quicker I got antibiotics in my system, the quicker I would feel better, and this is not a time I could afford to be down. I felt better pretty quickly since luckily I caught it at a very early stage.
Alyssa is still doing great. She is holding her head up pretty well now. We weighed her to get a rough estimate of her weight (i weighed myself, then weighed together) and she was at almost 8 1/2 pounds. She wasn't quite 7 1/2 at her 2 week checkup. So thats close to a pound in about 1o days. Shes still a little peanut though.
Dave checked in today and has to start working not this monday but next. He won't start flying until November though. For all of you in MD, we should be up that way later this month to show off Alyssa! I'll post when I know the exact dates. I think we are going to have a little get together so we don't have to cart Alyssa all over town to let everyone meet her.
and the unpacking continues...
